23 Caton Place: A Tale of Two Architects?

DJ Associates have replaced Karl Fischer as the architects behind 23 Caton Place.

The plot continues to thicken around the mysterious development at 23 Caton Place.

Last week, real estate site BuzzBuzzHome posted "new" renderings of the partially-built 103-unit edifice, which they claimed were freshly released from architect Karl Fischer.

But alas, clarity remains out of reach. On Monday, Curbed reportedly received a tip that Karl Fischer is no longer the architect at all, but that DJ Associates have taken over the job.

Permits filed with the Department of Buildings in October support this. We reached out to DJ Associates' office, but were told that no information is available, nor would they divulge whether they will be attending tonight's meeting on the future of the site.

A representative from Councilman Brad Lander's office said that though several invitations have been extended, the firm has yet to confirm whether it will have a presence at the meeting.

All of this is apparently news to Karl Fischer, who seem to think they are still behind the project. A representative from the company—who refused to give her name or title— expressed bewilderment that they were no longer on the job.

"As far as we know, that job is on hold—but we are the architects of record," she said. She said she's heard nothing of any sneaky takeover by DJ Associates.

Are the renderings up to date? "I would think so," she said.

She added that it has been "some time" since any action was taken on the project, and that neither she nor her colleagues were aware of tonight's meeting.

Want to know more? So do we. A meeting co-sponsored by Community Board 7 and Councilman Brad Lander's office will be held tonight at 6:30 p.m. at International Baptist Church, located 312 Coney Island Avenue.
