Move over McCarren: Kensington Has Pool Problems, Too

The tenants of one Kensington apartment building have a pool—but it comes with a cost.

Williamsburg's McCarren Park Pool may have hours-long lines, but one Kensington apartment building is seeing to it that residents are kept out in a different way—with Draconian pool rules.

The bizarre stipulations—originally documented by blogger lornagrl, and on Friday picked up by Gothamist—are numerous: Tenants must pay a $50 fee to use the pool, which is open only a few hours a day during the week, and closed completely on Saturdays. The handful of residents able to both cough up the required fee and actually find the time to use the pool should plan to do so alone—guests are not allowed.

One particularly agitated tenant typed up a sign and posted it in the building's lobby, saying the promise of a pool "is just like when Stalin promised better life only to take away all the freedom!" Indeed.
