Owner of Windsor Wine to Open New Bistro - With Garden - at 231 PPW

Wine, cocktails and a high-quality menu will define Bob Lenartz's new outpost.

By summer, the Double Windsor won't be the only fancy-pants watering hole on Prospect Park West.

Bob Lenartz, owner of the nearby Windsor Wine Merchants, will in the coming months open a new wine bar and bistro at 231 Prospect Park West, a source confirmed for Patch on Tuesday.

Plans for the new operation are still in their fledgling stages, but the source, another co-owner who asked not to be identified to protect his current job, said the restaurant will fill a glaring void in the Windsor Terrace food scene.

"It's really going to cater to the needs of the community," the source said, adding that the eatery will focus on serving gourmet coffee and pastries by morning, and transform into a wine and cocktail lounge at night.

A lunch and dinner menu will will offer a full complement of elegant eats like steak and fish to soak up the booze.

The space will seat around 40 people inside, with room for more in the back garden. (Yes Virginia, there is a garden.)

Mike Streaman, a contractor known for his work revamping a Prospect Heights crib in a 2008 episode of This Old House, will be renovating the interior, likely making use of his fondess for reclaimed wood to fashion table tops and the bar.

So what prompted Lenartz to take the former Krupa Grocery space to such mouthwatering new heights?

Our source can't say for sure, but he's got a guess.

"He works across the street, so I think he’s just been staring at it for the last five years."
