In Wake of Sandy, Destruction Sweeps Prospect Park

The city's parks remain closed today, but that didn't stop dozens of cabin-feverish Brooklynites from exploring the destruction wrought by Hurricane Sandy in Prospect Park.

The damage was immense, with several of the park's massive trees felled by winds that reached up to 85 mph in some parts of the city.

While the loss of trees is obviously devastating, local children and their parents were certainly making the most of their afternoon, snapping photos and climbing on branches that just yesterday stood hundreds of feet in the air.
