Why Go: Meet the new recruits and transfers to the league at the GGRD Derbytaunt Ball, featuring, among other things, $3 beer from Brooklyn Brewery and complimentary eats from Rosamunde Sausage Grill. The team assignment ceremony, which we imagine is some combination of the Hogwarts sorting ceremony and the NBA draft, will commence at 9 p.m.

When/Where: March 1 from 6 to 10 p.m. March 2 and 3 from 12 to 8 p.m. at the Brooklyn Art Library, located at 103A N. 3rd St.
Why Go: The description for the exhibit, which will enjoy only three days in Brooklyn before it ships off to Austin, is pretty compelling: "The Sketchbook Project is a global, crowd-sourced art project where participants from all walks of life are sent a sketchbook and have until January 15th to fill the pages and return it for inclusion in a traveling exhibition and permanent collection at The Brooklyn Art Library. Anyone – from anywhere in the world – can participate in the project."

Target First Saturdays at Brooklyn Museum
When/Where: Saturday, March 2 from 5 to 11 p.m. at the Brooklyn Museum, located at 200 Eastern Pkwy.
Why Go: First Saturdays are a perennial favorite, despite the tragic cessation of the popular dance parties in October. Never mind that, though—the event is still rife music, performances and artist talks. Where else will you find all that for free?

Support Red Hook Business
When/Where: Red Hook Winery, located at 175 - 204 Van Dyke St., Red Hook Lobster Pound, located at 284 Van Brunt St. and Fairway Market, located at 480-500 Van Brunt St.
Why Go: Superstorm Sandy gave Red Hook her worst, and while several businesses (sigh) are still shuttered, three triumphantly re-opened their doors on Friday: Red Hook Winery, Red Hook Lobster Pound and most dramatically, Fairway Market, which celebrated the debut of its entirely renovated interior with the likes of Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Miss America.
Cost: Free, until you buy something, then however much that thing costs.
When/Where: Saturday, March 2, from 12 to 5 p.m. at Williamsburg's Gristle Tattoo, located at 378 N. 8th St.
Why Go: Saturday is shaping up to be a great day to get some new ink or maybe a pet. Get one, the other or both at Gristle Tattoo, where animal advocacy group Empty Cages Collective is hosting a "kitty and bunny" adoption event. If you're not in the position to adopt right now, know that the whole deposit from your Cannibal Jesus tattoo will be donated to the cause.
