Nor'easter Poised to Strike City Early Wednesday

All parks, beaches and playgrounds will be closed.

Update, 9:16 a.m.: A coastal storm continued to approach the city forcing airlines to cancel dozens of flights from area airports.

United Airlines has decided to cancel its flights starting at noon Wednesday, the AP reported. American Airlines has scrapped flights after 3 p.m.

Winds between 25 and 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected to batter the region Wednesday afternoon into tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

All of the city's parks will be closed from 12 p.m. Wednesday until 12 p.m. Thursday. 

Playgrounds and beaches will also be closed. 

For Brooklynites, this means that all events and activities in Prospect Park will be cancelled, and officials are urging residents to be careful when walking on tree-lined sidewalks in the event of falling trees or branches.
