Rarely Seen: Prospect Park Tennis Courts Deflated!

In preparation for Sandy, the park's indoor Tennis Center was closed and deflated to avoid damage.

From a distance, it almost appeared as if a layer of snow had blanketed a section of Brooklyn on Monday. But the large sheath of white covering the ground at the corner of Coney Island and Parkside Avenues inside Prospect Park is actually the deflated Tennis Center.

The indoor tennis courts were only open for six days of the new season when Hurricane Sandy forced the park to close on Sunday, October 28, and with it the center. The tents were deflated to reduce possible damage.

Neigbors running outside the perimeter of the park Monday afternoon observed the rare scene with a mixture of curiosity and melancholy, noting the courts as yet another victim of Sandy's pass through town.
