The Early Word: Get a Free A/C Through HEAP

What you need to know, pre-coffee.

1. Low income adults 65 and older, as well as people with debilitating mental/physical health conditions may qualify for a free air conditioner through the state's Home Energy Assistance Program. Call the HEAP Hotline at 1-800-342-3009 for more information.

2. Mark your calendars, Kensington/Windsor Terrace CSA members: Brooklyn Commune will host a Food Preservation Workshop on Aug. 19 at 2 p.m., in which participants will learn techniques for preserving seasonal produce. More information is available here.

3. Don't let the oppressive heat stop you from dancing. Join the tonight at Central Library for an evening of  Afro-Colombian rhythms with funk grooves and powerful big band arrangements. Dance lessons begin at 6:30, band starts at 7. In case of rain, the concert will be held on Thursday, July 19.
