Kensington and Windsor Terrace are home to some pretty lush-looking blocks. Could they be the greenest in all the borough?
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is once again on the hunt for the Greenest Block in Brooklyn, a contest that aims to promote streetscape gardening, tree stewardship and community development.
In 2010, Kensington scored an honorable mention for the the stretch of East 4th Street between Caton Street and Albemarle Road.
The contest currently has four entrants from around Kensington and Windsor Terrace, but those interested have until June 1 to jump in. Commercial and residential blocks will be judged separately, but all entrants must be part of a block association or similar (take a look at the contest website for more details).
In addition to the Greenest Block award—$300 for first prize—contestants will also have the opportunity to take home green (or gardening tools) for having the best window box, greenest storefront, best street tree beds and best community garden streetscape.
