Lander for Brooklyn Beep? 'We'll See.'

The popular councilman will neither confirm—nor deny—his intention to run for Brooklyn Borough President.

Councilman Brad Lander isn't saying he will run for Brooklyn Borough President—but he's not saying he won't, either.

"We'll see," Lander, D-Park Slope, told Patch on Tuesday. "I’m not prepared to say 'No, under no circumstances will I run for Brooklyn Borough President.' But I’m also sure not prepared to say I’m planning to do it, or I’m seriously considering it or looking at it."

Lander said that for now, his focus is fixed firmly on serving his district, which includes Borough Park, Kensington, Windsor Terrace, Park Slope and Carroll Gardens.

"There’s obviously city-wide legislative and policy priorities that I’m working on, but I’m really excited about so many things going on around the district," he said, citing in particular the voted on last month by more than 2,000 of his constituents.

As of now, the race for borough president has only one contender—State Senator Eric Adams, who announced his intention to run in February. The position is currently held by Marty Markowitz, who, after 11 years in office, has reached his term limit.

The election will be held in 2013.

I sincerely think he's doing a good job, and he's not even my Member of the Council. I think he would be better for Brooklyn, and the city, as a more senior member and in a more influential leadership position. Then Mayor!

Brad Lander is great--and so is Senator Eric Adams, who has already declared his candidacy. I welcome the opportunity to have to decide between two great leaders when election day arrives. Go Brooklyn!

Go Brad! He's one of the smartest, hardest working, most thoughtful city council members around. Brooklyn would be lucky to have him at the helm.

Brad would be a great City Council Speaker but I can't imagine the Queens Democratic machine, Vito Lopez and those clowns up in the Bronx would allow that to happen. So, yeah, maybe BP is a good spot for Brad to launch his inevitable mayoral run.
