It was a busy morning at site of the future , with workers ripping up every last inch of the previously poured at the corner of Church Avenue and Beverley Road.
This is the first step in creating the plaza, which was conceived by Kensington residents as a way to take advantage of the extra-wide sidewalk installed in 2010 as a traffic bump-out.
The original sidewalk was poorly bonded, meaning the water could easily freeze in the overly-wide crevices and become a slipping hazard for pedestrians. According to a representative from Councilman Brad Lander's office, the work is expected to be completed by next Wednesday.
Trees, benches and bike racks are expected to be added to the space in the coming months, and we look forward to watching the transformation.
