Hamptons Agenda: Celebrity Reading, 'Big Maybelle,' ARF Beach Ball

Also happening this weekend, the second annual Duck Race and Concert will take place in Quogue, the Wynton Marsalis Quintet brings an evening of jazz to the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, and the Horseless Horseshow comes to Southampton.

It's summer, meaning scores of lucky Brooklynites will be taking time away from city life to enjoy the more bucolic pleasures of Long Island. Here's a rundown of the best events happening this weekend.

Montauk

BENEFIT: The Annual will be held on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Montauk Lake Club to benefit the Montauk Village Association. Live music will be provided by Vanessa Trouble and the Red Hot Swing Band. Tickets are available at Keeshan Real Estate and Pospisil Real Estate.

Amagansett

BENEFIT: The 14th annual  is taking place at an Amagansett estate where Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller once summered, on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. Through its after-school programs, now in 150 schools and shelters, it is reaching 10,000 children a year. "Spiderman" screenwriter David Koepp and his family will be co-hosting this event with the Kazickas family. Live African music, a silent auction with unique sports items and contemporary artwork including surfboards designed by renowned South African artists. Tickets are $150.

BENEFIT CONCERT: Support Wounded Warrior Project & ReserveAid at Wall Street Rocks 2012 Battle of the Bands Round 2 at beginning at 6:30 p.m. Competing acts include The Subscribers, Moroccan Sheepherders and Holiday Electric with special performances to follow by Madame Mayhem and C3. Wall Street Rocks is a collaboration of employees in the financial, technology and entertainment industries who are passionate about giving support to heroic Americans who serve out nation including military veterans, first responders and relief aid workers. East Hampton

CARNIVAL: The will be held on the grounds of The Jewish Centerof the Hamptons on Friday from 10 a.m. to noon.  This event is free to attend and includes plenty of games and activities for the whole family.  There will be hot food and a bake sale during the event, as well as a bouncy castle, dunk tank, and face painting.

BENEFIT CELEBRITY READING: Celebrity actors will take the stage at Guild Hall on Friday night at 8 p.m. to perform a staged reading of a new play by Emmy-nominated writer and producer Eugene Pack.  The show will star Chris Bauer ("True Blood"), Scott Adsit ("30 Rock"), Edie Falco ("The Sopranos"), Kyra Sedgwick ("The Closer"), and Dayle Reyfel.  The nights event will benefit Guild Hall and The Felix Organization, whose mission is to help support those children growing up in the foster care system.  Tickets for Prime Orchestra and VIP Reception catered by Citarella $75; Orchestra $40/$38 members; Balcony $30/$28 members.  To purchase tickets by phone call 631-324-4050 or 866-811-4111.

ARTIST-WRITERS GAME: The first pitch of the at Herrick Park on Saturday is at 2 p.m. Batting practice is at noon. Stepping up to the plate this year for the Artists include, actor Mark Feuerstein ("Royal Pains"), model Christie Brinkley, artist Eric Ernst, actor Gregg Bello, comedienne and actress Ali Wentworth, among others. On the Writers side, team members include Food Network star Giada de Laurentiis, television journalist George Stephanopoulos, writer/author Mike Lupica, chef and author Katie Lee, former major league baseball player Jim Leyritz, and more. Proceeds from ticket sales and a raffle raise money for East End Hospice, East Hampton Day Care Learning Center, Phoenix House of Long Island and The Retreat. There is a suggestion donation of $10.

ROAR FOR A CURE CARNIVAL: TOWN presents the to benefit The Max Cure Foundation for pediatric cancer at the Ross School on Goodfriend Drive in East Hampton on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.  Former New York Mets Hall of Fame pitcher John Franco will be in attendance, along with NBA World Champion Trent Tucker, and actors Aida Turturro and Edie Falco.  There will be games galore, a rejuvenation relaxation spa tent, and lunch that includes a quesadilla bar, fry station, gourmet wraps, hamburgers and hotdogs.  Hampton Coffee will be providing a "coffee bar on wheels."

ART WALK: will meet at Sotheby's International Realty on Saturday at 5 p.m.  The night will begin with champagne and snacks with the tour to follow at 5:30 p.m.  You can take a free self-guided tour through the participating art galleries in the village, or you can register in advance for a guided tour led by Esperanza Leon owner, curator of Solar Gallery.  The walk ends at 8 p.m.  For more information call Kathy at 917-239-0493 or email info@artwalkhamptons.com.

Sagaponack

WINE & MUSIC: Wolffer Estate Vineyard is hosting throughout the summer at the Wine Stand on Montauk Highway from 5 p.m.   until sunset every Friday and from 5:30 p.m. till sunset every Saturday. Live music will be playing until the sun sets, while wine is served by the bottle and the glass with cheese and charcuterie plates available for purchase. Bridgehampton

OUTDOOR MOVIE: "The Shining" will be shown  outdoors at Silas Marder  Gallery in Bridgehampton on Friday at 9 p.m. The film showing is part of a series happening throughout the summer called ,  presented in partnership with the Hamptons International Film Festival. All films are free and you may bring beach chairs, blankets and a picnic.

BENEFIT: Evidence Dance Company will host its 9th Annual on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hayground School.  The benefit will honor Ruby Dee, the legendary actress, playwright, activist and philanthropist with the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Gatekeeper Award. Jason Moran, an Award-winning Jazz Musician and Composer, will be awarded with the 2012 Visionary Gatekeeper Award.  There will be a cocktail reception followed by a light dinner with a performance by Evidence, dessert, and "Dancing with the Dancers."  Individual tickets begin at $350.  For more information call 914-235-1490 x11.

Sag Harbor

THEATRE: Tony Award-winning Lillas White is starring in the world premiere of "Big Maybelle: Soul of the Blues" at Bay Street Theatre through September 2.  White stars as legendary blues singer Maybelle Smith providing an evening of music performance that is said to tell the story of how Smith was a big woman with an even bigger talent who took on the all the challenges that 1950s America gave.  Weekend performances run Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., with a special 4 p.m. matinee this Saturday; and Sunday at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $66 and $76. GAME TOURNAMENT: MONC XIII, the new home design store in Sag Harbor, will host their inaugural backgammon tournament and party on Friday. There is very limited space, so those who are interested in playing must reserve in advance by calling MONC XIII at 631-808-3333. The elimination tournament begins at 6:15 p.m. and players are guaranteed at least two games as winners of each round will move on, but those defeated also will play other defeated players. Prizes will be awarded to winners.  All are welcome to attend for the cocktail party and tournament viewing.  

Southampton

5K: The 17th annual Ellen's Run to benefit the Ellen Hermanson Foundation is Sunday at 9 a.m. sharp, rain or shine. The race itself is a family event, aimed at both serious runners — women and men alike — and casual runners, as well as walkers and supporters of all ages. Proceeds from Ellen’s Run support the new Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at Southampton Hospital.

CONCERT: The Southampton Cultural Center will present a concert in partnership with "Child Prodigy and Autism" as part of the Southampton Art Festival's third season on Sunday at 5 p.m.  The concert will take place at the Levitas Center for the Arts at Southampton Cultural Center at Agawam Park.  The evening will showcase world class musicians that will include a performance from Marta Bagratuni, who is a young internationally acclaimed cellist and opera singer and a surprise child prodigy.  Tickets are $ 20 general admission; $ 10 students under 21 with ID.  Purchase tickets in advance calling (631) 287-4377.

AUTO SHOW: An of a variety of restored cars from the teens through the sixties will be on display at 17 Meeting House Lane on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Admission is $5 and is free for members and children.

HORSELESS HORSE SHOW: will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. at 320 Majors Path.  The show is run like a regular horse show, except children will be jumping and navigating courses of jumps and obstacles.  All ages can enter, and ribbons will be awarded for each class. All proceeds from the event will benefit CTREE's therapeutic horses, programs, and scholarship fund.  Registration is $15 for each class.  For more information call 631-779-2835.

ARF BEACH BALL: , ARF's premiere summer benefit will be held at the Bridgehampton Tennis & Surf Club on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.  NBC4's Chuck Scarborough will emcee the evening with ARF's Champion of Animals Award to be presented to Candy Udell, President of London Jewelers and Founder of the Rescue Paw Foundation.  Cocktails will be served at 6:30 p.m. with dinner to follow at 8 p.m.  Tickets are $500 with junior tickets (under 35) at $200.  Email gloria@­arfha­mptons.­org for more information.

Westhampton Beach

BENEFIT CONCERT: will take place at the Immaculate Conception Church's Parish Center on Friday at 5:30 p.m.  There will be raffles and a silent auction with valuable prizes will be available for bidding before the concert begins at 8 p.m.  The evening will benefit the Food Pantry, the Immaculate Conception Church’s Homeless Shelter Program, and local area Middle and High School scholarships.  Tickets for General Admission are $25 and VIP Tickets are $60. AUTHOR TALK: , author of The Obamas will be at the Westhampton Free Library on Saturday at 3 p.m. to discuss her book.  Kantor covered the 2008 presidental campaign for The New York Times.  The book is described by the library as to leaving readers surprised who thought they knew the President and the First Lady.  Admission to this event is free.  

BENEFIT GALA: The Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center hosts its annual on Friday at 6 p.m.  You can choose to just join the cocktail party at the private residence of Kristin and John Miller's estate in Quogue, or you can continue on to guest hosts private residences for dinner to follow.  Each host will select a special theme and menu for the evening's affair.  Cocktail Party tickets are $150 and Cocktail Party and Dinner tickets are $250.  For more information contact Roberta Shoten at RobertaS@whbpac.org or 631-288-2350 ext. 117.

MUSIC: The will be at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center to performing an evening of jazz on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.  Wynton Marsalis is a leading figure at the Jazz Center of Lincoln Center, Trumpet player, composer, and bandleader.  This Grammy Award-winning musician is one of Time magazine's Most 25 Influential People.  Tickets are $200; $150; $125.  To purchase tickets call 631-288-1500.

MUSIC: is considered the most revered dramatic soprano and will be at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.  Voigt will be accompanied by renowned pianist Brian Zeger.  Tickets are $150, $125, $100. To purchase tickets call 631-288-1500.

Quogue

AUTHOR TALK: Author will be at the Quogue Library to discuss his book Kayak Morning: Reflections on Love, Grief and Small Boats on Saturday at 5 p.m.  The event will take place on the grounds of the library.  Admission for this event is $15.  A book signing and reception will follow, and reservations are strongly encouraged.  For reservations call 631-653-4224 ext. 4.
